Awards

The Forest Products Society presents four awards at the International Convention each year. The prestigious Fred W. Gottschalk Memorial Award honors exceptional service to the Society by an individual member. The L.J. Markwardt Wood Engineering Award encourages research and promotes knowledge of wood in the engineering field. The Wood Engineering Achievement Award recognizes excellence in the discipline of wood engineering. The Forest Products Society’s Wood Award recognizes outstanding research in the field of wood and wood products conducted by graduate students.

FRED W. GOTTSCHALK MEMORIAL AWARD

2011 Wood Engineering Achievement Young Engineer Award
sponsored by American Wood Council

Submit a nomination for the 2011 Wood Engineering Achievement Award

This award recognizes excellence in the discipline of wood engineering, including structures, structural elements, building codes, consensus standards, design procedures and education. It is intended to honor achievements and innovations. This year the award honors a young (aged 40 or under) engineer for their past contributions and future potential in the field of wood engineering. Deadline is April 1, 2011.

2011 Wood Award
sponsored by Arch Wood Protection

The Wood Award, presented by the Forest Products Society, recognizes and honors the most outstanding graduate student research in the field of wood and wood products. To be eligible, the graduate student must have been registered for a full quarter or semester at a university or college during 2010.

Submit your title now for preliminary consideration, then have your advisor, department head, or dean submit your paper and supporting documents by the deadline of March 1, 2011.  Papers may relate to practical and applied – as well as fundamental – characteristics of wood and wood products.
Preliminary submissions deadline: February 15, 2011. Final submissions deadline: March 1, 2011.

2011 L. J. Markwardt Award

The L. J. Markwardt Award was established to encourage research and promote knowledge of wood in the engineering field: to enhance the efficient utilization of wood, and so that the products of the forest may extend further and serve mankind better. The 2011 award will focus on engineering science, and will recognize the author(s) of a technical paper published in the Forest Products Journal, or Wood and Fiber Science during 2009 or 2010, that is judged to have the most outstanding merit in the field of wood as an engineering material.
