Understanding What Your Green Building Customers Are Asking For
Presenter: Jeff Howe

For well over 20 years the wood products industry has been asking the question: “Do customers really care about green?” – and increasingly it seems like the answer might be "Yes." Customers are interested in green building projects, and trying to qualify for “points” and “credits;” companies are being asked to help. So, what are these customers really asking for and how can your sales staff be positioned to respond better?

How Green Building Programs Impact the Demand for Certified Wood Products
Presenter: Jim Bowyer

More than 100 U.S cities have committed to green building programs and the majority of new homes are expected to incorporate green practices in coming years. There are dozens of green building programs, but a few national programs are having the strongest market influence and are impacting the demand for wood products. This presentation will address what wood product companies need to know about how LEED, NAHB, Green Globes and other major green building programs impact their markets.

Selling Green to Green Customers
Presenter: Jim Bowyer

There is an old saying in business, "customer is always right." While this mantra has been around for generations, the implications become more significant in the face of increasingly educated and experienced consumers who have more choices and definite expectations and abundant alternate sources. This scenario is playing itself out in the forest products marketplace. Today, the forest products industry faces two major issues: foreign competition from developing countries (e.g., China) and growing concern over "green" products. These issues are linked. The solution to both is to build intimate customer relationships. The companies that are thriving in the face of these major challenges are doing so by linking closely with the needs and desires of their clients.

How to Tackle Chain-of-Custody Certification
Presenter: Kathryn Fernholz

Chain-of-Custody (COC) certification is the key requirement for qualifying wood products for recognition in green building programs. What is a documented control system? What is a controlled wood risk assessment? What will all of this cost? This presentation will address the nitty-gritty details of COC, step-by-step and as painlessly as possible. If you’ve been avoiding this, haven’t known where to start or have gotten bogged down in your efforts – this is the presentation to get you on track and moving forward.
