Get Noticed in the Graduating Student Directory
The annual FPS Graduating Student Directory will be published in a spring issue of the Forest Products Journal. The Directory includes the names and qualifications of students who will be receiving degrees in fields of interest to those within the forest products industry. To be included in the Directory, information must be received no later than April 16, 2010.
This annual directory is provided by the Society as a service to prospective employers and to FPS student members. Industry, research, and educational organizations rely on the Graduating Student Directory to find promising employees. Student members receive a free listing. Student non-members may be included in the Directory for a $50 fee or they can join the Society for the regular student member fee and be included in the Directory for at no additional charge. Detailed information regarding submission guidelines has been sent electronically to all FPS student members.

A Retrospective Look on the U.S. Forest Service Forest Products Laboratory
The Forest Products Journal will feature a historical retrospective of the U.S. Forest Service Forest Products Laboratory (FPL) in its upcoming issue. "A Century of Research Working for You" focuses on modern advancements in forest products research in light of innovations throughout the FPL’s impressive research history.
This feature article highlights historic progress in preservation, composites, packaging, sawing, drying and lumber grading, to name a few, and introduces new facilities such as the brand new 90,000 square foot Centennial Research Facility. Key personnel and the unique features of past progress illustrate the breadth and depth of the FPL’s impact across the nation and the world.
The Centennial Research Facility, a sustainably built multi-use laboratory housing state-of-the-art equipment, will have an official dedication ceremony in June of 2010. Attendees of the Forest Products Society’s 64th International Convention are encouraged to attend.
The FPL historical retrospective will be featured in the October 2009 issue of the Forest Products Journal. The issue will be mailed next week from the Forest Products Society’s new printer. A combined November/December issue will be mailed in May, with the 2010 issues commencing in June.

2010 Wood Engineering Lifetime Achievement Award Call for Nominations
The Wood Engineering Division of the Forest Products Society is seeking nominations for the 2010 Wood Engineering Lifetime Achievement Award. The award honors an individual for his/her cumulative contributions to the discipline of wood engineering. Significant and measurable impact must be demonstrated and tangible evidence of accomplishment in the marketplace is key. This award is generously sponsored by the AF&PA’s American Wood Council.

Solicitation for International Editorial Board Members
The FPS Executive Board is seeking to expand the Society’s global reach through the development of an International Editorial Board for the Forest Products Journal. The International Editorial Board will work with the Editor in Chief of the Journal to help evaluate manuscripts and provide advice and contacts for the selection of appropriate reviewers. The International Editorial Board will be composed of global experts in the field of wood science, engineering, economics and business, forest products technology, and sustainable biomaterials and bioenergy production and applications.
High caliber experts from different sub-specialties in these fields, and from different geographic zones, are being sought for a 3-year term on the International Editorial Board. The goal of the International Editorial Board is to ensure that the content of the Journal meets the highest levels of science, engineering, technology, policy, business and management in the field. The FPS Executive Board is currently accepting applications and nominations of persons to serve as members of the International Editorial Board.
